72 more buses on city roads soon
PATNA: Bihar State Road Transport Corporation ( BSRTC) is all set to roll out 72 more non-AC 32-seater buses on the city roads.
The new buses would ply on eight new routes. Just as the 78 city buses already plying, the new buses would be equipped with GPS system, CCTV camera, fire extinguisher, emergency exit point and alarm buttons. Eight seats in each vehicle would be reserved for women while two seats each would be reserved for senior citizens and differently-abled passengers.
“We do not have any plan to launch more AC or women-special buses,” a senior transport official said and added the women-special buses already launched would be run as normal buses as they could not get enough women passengers. AC buses would also be run as non-AC buses now that winter has arrived.
Tenders were floated for running more city buses on public-private partnership (PPP) basis. “Now agreements with eight operators for 72 buses have been finalized,” the official said.
All the buses currently being run in the city are operated by Eden Transport Private Limited. Of the proposed 72 buses, 44 would be operated by the Eden while the remaining 28 buses would be operated by seven other private operators.
