Bihar govt ready for alternative crops in case of drought

Patna, Jul 28 (PTI) Bihar Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh today said the state government had completed preparations for cultivation of alternative crops in the event of drought during the kharif season this year.

The government was also considering the proposal for providing subsidy to farmers to protect standing crops in case of low rainfall, he told reporters.

Singh, who reviewed the situation in the agricultural front in view of the low rainfall this monsoon at a meeting with officials of his department, said the state had recorded 441 mm rainfall against the normal rainfall of 462 mm since June 1.

The rainfall was 5 per cent less than normal, he added.
