Bihar to appoint 34000 Urdu teachers

PATNA: The state government would appoint 34,000 Urdu teachers for which written test had already been conducted, education minister P K Sahi said in the state assembly on Tuesday. The Urdu teachers would be posted in the secondary schools with coeducation. He was replying to the starred question of RJD member Dinesh Kumar Singh, who had sought opening of an Urdu secondary school for girls in Jagdishpur block under Bhojpur district.

Sahi said there was no such provision for opening a separate Urdu secondary school. He added that there was a provision for Urdu language teaching in secondary schools with coeducation. Joining the issue, leader of opposition in the assembly, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, said the government had opened Urdu primary and middle schools in the past as there was special provision for education of minority students.

His statement led to a verbal duel between Siddiqui and transport and information and public relations minister Brishen Patel. Supporting Sahi, Patel said opening Urdu, Bengali, Punjabi or any other language school at secondary level would divide the people. RJD members protested over Patel’s statement and raised slogans against the government.

Replying to a starred question of another member, Manorama Prasad, regarding alleged irregularities in supply of midday meal to three primary schools in Baria block in West Champaran district that were affected due to land erosion caused by Gandak river, Sahi said some irregularities were found in those schools during an inquiry.
