Modi for hiring moretax collectors
PATNA: Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi on Wednesday directed the urban development department to appoint new tax collectors at 4% commission, which had been fixed earlier, and issue advertisement for that. He said the department must prepare a list of major defaulters and should not hesitate in ensuring attachment of their properties and freezing their bank accounts.
Holding a high-level meeting to review the working of the department, Modi said tax collectors should not do duty from 7am to 12 noon as a ritual but also meet the owners of business establishments till 7 in the evening. They should also go to apartments for tax collection on Sundays, he directed.
Modi also directed the chairman of Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) not to sanction new power connection to anybody without examining his latest holding tax receipt. Tax collectors were also directed to accept holding tax of over Rs 1,000 only through cheques. “The department should ensure computerization speedily so that the citizens could make payment online,” the deputy CM said.
Urban development minister Prem Kumar, principal secretary Shashi Shekhar Sharma and PMC commissioner Devesh Sehra were present at the review meeting.
Modi said in Patna there are 3.69 lakh power connections, but the urban development department has fixed tax on only 1.70 lakh households.
