Patna zoo to have special Rhino zone
Patna, Jun 24 (PTI) The Bihar government will carve out a ‘rhino zone’ in view of an increase in the number of the animal in the Sanjay Gandhi Zoological Park here.
“We will develop a rhino zone in the 10-acre area of zoo because of their ever-increasing number,” Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi told reporters after launching two eco-friendly battery-operated vehicles in the zoo for visitors.
Modi said for the development of rhino range, a proposal has already been sent to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).
He said the zoo was the second one in the country having the largest number of the hoofed mammal. On inducting other animals in the zoo, Modi said one pair of Asian lions, one pair of white tigers and tiger would soon be brought to Patna Zoo from Hyderabad Zoo under the wildlife exchange system. He said the state government would encourage those who would be willing to adopt an animal in the zoo.
A mini-theatre, with 100 seating capacity, would soon be developed where films on wildlife protection would be screened. “Now we have also decided to use solar energy as a source to light up the zoo here,” he said.
