PHED directs engrs to implement piped drinking water supply system
PATNA: The Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) headquarters has asked the department’s field engineers and officials to implement the piped drinking water supply system on a priority basis.
In this regard, the engineer and officials have been directed to identify the projects which have to be completed in the current financial year. The PHED field engineers have also been asked to take up target-based projects and implement them on war footing.
The decisions in this regard were taken up at two-day review meeting held at the department’s state headquarters. The engineers concerned of the Patna, Purnia, Muzaffarpur and Bhagalpur regions participated at the review meeting that PHED principal secretary presided.
It was decided that action would be taken against the contractors who have been lax in implementing the piped drinking water supply system and whose work have not been satisfactory. The officials were told that the work of the big agencies and contractors involved in the work should be periodically reviewed, and they be given certificates only after the completion of their assigned work.
Similarly, a directive was given to achieve target-based implementation of sanitation programme to cover the families and schools of the respective districts and blocks. Toilets have to be provided in 15,000 schools and besides 11 lakh houses have to be provided with toilets.
