Single window to hear I-T grievances soon
PATNA: Chief commissioner, Income-tax, Bihar, Vijay Sharma, on Monday said that the role of his department has evolved from that of a tax collector to one of service provider by providing easy access and facilities to taxpayers to pay their income-tax and also redressal of their grievances.
He said that in future a single window system would be provided to hear the grievances of taxpayers, giving them a time frame for their redressal. Total transparency would be maintained by the department officials in communicating to the taxpayers the actual position of their grievances if they could not be redressed. He said that if refund of excess income-tax paid is not sent due to some deficiency, the department would send deficiency letters to the concerned taxpayers who can then reach the department with relevant papers to get the refund.
Sharma made these observations at a function organized by Bihar Chamber of Commerce (BCC) to felicitate him. BCC president O P Sah and others also gave farewell to the former chief commissioner, income-tax, Tarkeshwar Singh. Singh said that in the last two years, the I-T had collected record revenue and stood second in the list of the states recording high percentage growth in I-T collection. He said that in the current financial year, the target is Rs 5,850 crore. He said that the department had refunded Rs 40 crore in the last fiscal in the state.
